A Connected Home Is A Safe Home

A Connected Home Is A Safe Home

A connected home is a safe home and a connected home requires smart devices installed in every place you can think of performing various actions, reporting data and giving you real time insights into what’s happening in your home.

Smart smoke detectors in every room report if a fire occurs whether the system is armed or not. Around the clock, it is watching, protecting, taking care of you making sure your home is safe from what could be the most disastrous and traumatic life safety event. There are occasions where you become more susceptible to a fire like forgetting to water your Christmas tree, it dries out, and leaving the lights on when you leave home. Fireplaces getting out of control, faulty wiring or others, standard smoke detectors do not protect you from these scenarios because all they do is make noise and if you believe your neighbors will come rushing to your aid when they hear it beeping in your house, try setting off your car alarm and see what happens. How many people come outside and check on the car and knock on the door to see if you are okay. Most likely, the answer is none. Don’t place the security of your home in the ultraistic nature and availability of your neighbors.

Similarly, protection against carbon monoxide poisoning is equally critical. Carbon monoxide detectors are required in 50% of the states in the United States and yet many homes still don’t have one. Carbon monoxide is the leading cause of accidental deaths in America. Having a monitored carbon monoxide detector not only allows you to be informed if and when this silent killer enters your home but sends help right away, even when you are asleep and everyone becomes unconscious. It’s a scary scenario and one that will hopefully never happen to you. But if you have a monitored carbon monoxide detector then you can avoid that disastrous problem.

Floods are another very common insurance claim and if you ask an insurance company, they will tell you that floods are the #1 source of challenges for a homeowner. Floods can be tremendously expensive with thousands and thousands of dollars of damage occurring for even just a few inches of water. Statistics show that every basement will have a flood at some point during it’s life. Installing a smart flood detectors under each of your sinks, near the water heater, near the water in your refrigerator and other water locations can certainly help, but without the help of a smart water shut off valve, they will only inform you and hopefully you would be in a position to turn around, drive home and address the situation before too much damage has taken place. A better scenario is to install a smart flood detector like this one and a smart water valve on your pipes to automatically shut off the water when a flood is detected. Prevent your leaks from becoming lakes with an automated smart system that ties the flood detectors installed throughout your home to the water shut off valve with no action required from you other than to come home and fix the leak at minimal cost.

Heat detectors and freeze detectors are equally important as HVAC units can fail, heaters can fail resulting in not only added expense but added danger to pets, elderly and the infirm. Imagine if you were able to get a notification that your heater had broken in the middle of winter and rather than waiting for your pipes to freeze and deal with the requisite flooding that might occur and instead take immediate action to fix the heater and make sure that your home stays the temperature you need it to, no dead pets, no dead grandma, no dead plants. Simply a warm house all through smart technology with the best encryption and long range reliability that PowerG has become known for.

These and other solutions, when combined together make a smarter safer home, protecting you and your loved ones from unnecessary hassle, life threatening scenarios and costly damage all with access from a single touchscreen like the IQ Panel 4 and the easy to use mobile app, powered by Alarm.com.

News: Johnson Controls’ Qolsys IQ Panel 4 Now Widely Available

Following a soft launch in July, the IQ Panel 4 replaces a previous iteration as the company’s next-gen tech for security and smart home installations.

Today marks the full release of Johnson Control’s next generation security and smart home panel, the All-In-One IQ Panel 4.

The official unveiling follows a soft launch in mid-July. In the ensuing period, small numbers of the panel were sent to distributors for anyone to purchase and take part in a pilot program, during which dealers could put the new offering through its paces and report back to the company with cheers, jeers or suggestions.

First, let’s take a peak underneath the hood at some of the new panel’s components and feature sets.

The IQ Panel 4 is powered by a high-performance 2 GHz Qualcomm processor (MSM8953) equipped with eight cores. That’s quite a jump from the Qolsys IQ Panel 2 Plus, the company’s most previous iteration, which was outfitted with a quad-core processor. Therein lies the validation behind the company’s claims of delivering faster speed and better range on LTE, WiFi, Z-Wave, Bluetooth, PowerG and legacy security wireless.

Blog: You have a leak… What’s next?

You were smart and added flood/leak detectors all throughout your house. Do you have one under the kitchen sink, each of the bathroom sinks, near your water heater, and even one behind the fridge.
Then comes the dreaded notification on your phone: leak detected, kitchen sink. Questions race through your mind: now what? How bad is it? Why did that happen? has it ruined anything irreplaceable?  Is my insurance going to cover it?  As these questions raced through your mind inevitably you come down to one very important question: what’s next?
You could begin by racing home (if you’re not there already) and checking on things. Maybe you already know how to turn the water off on your sink, maybe you’re calling a plumber as you drive.  What you WANT to do is stop the water from flowing, but how?  Enter IQ water valve. Installs in just minutes over your Water main, no plumber required. Pairs wirelessly with the IQ panel using Z wave plus 700 series, the fastest and best Z wave connectivity yet.  Now, when One of your water sensors detects a leak, that shuts off the water to the entire house.  The only water that gets on the floor: only what was left in the pipes, and that’s easy to clean up.

Blog: Saving Construction Power for Builders

Constructing a new house requires power, and subcontractors are rarely concerned about managing it effectively. Once lights are installed it’s common to see them left on for hours if not days. HVAC contractors install heating and air-conditioning ducts, units, and thermostats and then leave them running.  The heater is off and cranked up to dry the mud and tape placed over the seams of the drywall, but rarely turned back down again. All of these add up two increase the construction power paid for by the builder.
Using IQ panel in the early stages of your finish work can significantly reduce The energy Used with our “vacant home used with our “vacant home” feature. Before an interactive account has been activated, The IQ panel can automatically turn off smart lights, adjusting thermostat to Energy conservative levels, and even make the home more secure by locking the front door. Even a single home can use a lot of energy when all the lights are on and the heater or air conditioner is “blasting“ for days on end, and for builders constructing large numbers of homes, the savings add up quick.

Blog: PowerG long range security and life safety sensor technology

PowerG wireless technology is the best way to ensure your security and life safety devices perform at their peak efficiency.  With ultra long range, these devices boast the industry’s best encryption and feature two way communication for battery efficiency and remote troubleshooting, saving you a technician visit and getting results fast.  With over 60 available channels these devices automatically avoid interference, eliminating hackers ability to jam the system and ensuring you always have a clean fast signal.  With the ultra long range these can easily replace wired sensors without the need to run conduit, rent forklifts, or run wires through existing walls, saving time and money on each job.  Rated for residential or commercial use and with a robust portfolio covering a variety of use cases you’ll always have the solution you need.

Blog: Upgrading to LTE

AT&T will stop using their 3G cellular towers in February 2022.  Verizon will cease their 3G support shortly after that.  In Canada, 2G cellular technology will stop by the end of 2021.  We call it the 2G/3G sunset, and like the actual sunset at the end of the day, it’s a gradual decline, not a point in time.  These towers are already starting to come down, and entire cities are finding themselves without 2G/3G cellular connectivity.

In the past security system used landline phone connections to send their signals, but over the past 10 years, security industry manufacturers and installers have relied heavily on 2G/3G cellular technology to keep their systems connected.  As the industry faces the 2G/3G sunset everyone recognizes a massive workload ahead of them: Millions of end users face the possibility of owning a system that no longer has the capability to contact their monitoring center unless action is taken.
